Appearance
Transferring a Client File Between Local, Server, or WebSync (Desktop)
What it is: A "book in / book out" system that moves a client file between Local, Server, and WebSync storage areas, ensuring only one location holds the active (unlocked) version at any time.
What it's for
In a multi-user firm, work on a client file can move between a practitioner's local machine, a shared network server, and a WebSync environment. Transferring "books" the file to the destination and locks it on the source, so colleagues cannot accidentally work on an outdated copy.
How to do it
Transfer from Local to Server
- On the Client List, select the client file under Local Clients.
- Select Transfer.
- Select Book In to Server.
- Select Copy.
- The file appears under Server Clients and is locked on Local Clients.
Transfer from Server back to Local
- Select the client file under Server Clients.
- Select Transfer.
- Select Book Out to Local.
- Select Overwrite to replace the local version with the latest server version.
- The file is updated on Local Clients and unlocked on Server Clients.
Transfer from Local to WebSync
- On the Client List, select the client file under Local Clients.
- Select Transfer.
- Select Book In to WebSync.
- The file appears under WebSync Clients and is locked on Local Clients.
Transfer from WebSync back to Local
- On the WebSync Client List, select the client file.
- Select Transfer.
- Select Book Out to Local.
- Select Overwrite to replace the local version with the latest WebSync version.
- The file is updated on Local Clients and unlocked on WebSync Clients.
